HK manufacturer presents its take on the Northern Lights
Hang Po Jewellery Ltd is unveiling its latest collection, Aurora, at the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show. The collection combines freshwater pearls and cubic zirconia to recreate the spectacular colours of the Northern Lights.
“The eye-catching contrast of the blue and green stones against white pearls and silver is both soothing and striking, aligning perfectly with the collection’s tagline, ‘Gorgeous light to protect us in the darkness,’” said company marketing manager SoSo Lam.
Lam is likewise on the lookout for brands and chain stores seeking manufacturers that can deliver on design and quality. “One of our strengths is working hand-in-hand with our partners to create their collections, going all the way from design and sampling to production and quality control,” she said.
Coloured gemstones are thriving in silver, with gem-set creations gaining a strong following in the market. The metal’s relative affordability brings enjoyment of these gems to more consumers while encouraging creativity through versatility of design and colour.
Hang Po Jewellery Co Ltd is also placing the focus on coloured stones this year. The Hong Kong-based pearl jewellery specialist has expanded its business by adding gem-set silver jewellery collections to its offerings, reveals marketing manager SoSo Lam. Cabochons are Hang Po’s cut of choice, with the manufacturer offering full jewellery sets of rings, earrings, bracelets, bangles and necklaces.
“The sets can feature a single gemstone, a combination of stones or even with some freshwater pearls for accent. On top of that, clients have a choice of stones and plating, allowing them to pick those most suitable for their market,” Lam says. For this line, Hang Po is using African amazonite, white jade, synthetic turquoise, pyrite, onyx, malachite, smoky quartz, lapis lazuli and blue lace agate. Wholesale prices range from US$5 to US$15 per piece, and the company requires a minimum order of 30 pieces per style and per stone.

Hang Po Jewellery Ltd is also riding on the modern wave sweeping the pearl silver jewellery category. The Hong Kong-based company produces pearl silver jewellery embellished with materials such as Swarovski Elements crystals, cubic Zirconia and leather. Its latest collection, “It’s Time to Rock with Pearls,” features freshwater pearls with cubic zirconia in openwork frames of gold-plated silver, while its new Colour Puzzle Collection alludes to jigsaw patterns through geometric forms adorned with enamel and freshwater pearls.
According to Marketing Manager SoSo Lam, Hang Po Jewellery caters primarily to jewellery brands and department stores in the US and Europe.
Pearls gain favour with winning styles
By Olivia Quiniquini
Pearls have come a long way in shedding their undeserved reputation as an old-fashioned gem. After all, there is a world of difference between being classic and being dated, and pearl jewellery - even at its most traditional – is arguably always the former. These days, pearl silver jewellery has become the reliable go-to for women seeking to add some class and elegance to everyday looks. The gem has also been accommodation greater self-expression through baroque and unusual-shaped varieties. Hoping to now definitively shatter all myths are the myriad of modern styles making their way to the market.
Hang Po Jewellery Ltd is also riding on the modern wave sweeping the pearl silver jewellery category. The young Hong Kong-based company, established some four years ago, has been making a name for itself through its fashionable jewellery pieces that marry freshwater pearls with materials such as gemstones, Swarovski Elements and leather.
Its latest collections have been deemed by clients as “extremely modern”, reveals marketing manager SoSo Lam. These include the “It’s Time to Rock with Pearls” collection, which sets freshwater pearls with cubic zirconia in openwork frames in gold-plated silver. Meanwhile, its Color Puzzle collection conjures up jigsaw patterns through enamel geometric forms embellished with freshwater pearls.
The year is shaping up to be quite eventful for Hang Po, which caters primarily to jewellery brands and department stores based in the US and Europe. Market response to its new collections has been quite positive, with some brand clients choosing to incorporate the products in their lines with some modifications. OEM orders have also been pouring in. The main highlight of the year though for Hang Po is its foray into branded territory – the company is currently being registered in Hong Kong and China, with completion expected by midyear.
*Competition has been extremely tough, with many companies competing on price. This is something we have no intentions of doing. Instead, we are choosing to take the branding route to diversify our business. Branding is a long-term investment that requires time and hard work to succeed, but we believe it is the best way to promote our capabilities and be competitive in the jewellery industry,” Lam says.
